Picking the Music for My Final Video

Choosing the perfect music for my final video was really important to me. It helped set the mood and made the whole project more emotional. So, I thought about it for a while and decided to go with music from the bands Vanbur and Sea Power. They both brought something special to the overall vibe of the project.

Vanbur: Engaging and Captivating

I came across Vanbur while watching the series "One Day," and their music really stuck with me. The band's captivating and atmospheric soundscapes beautifully matched the reflective and heartfelt themes of the show. I really connected with this show and I thought Vanbur's music would be a perfect fit for my project.
Vanbur's music possesses a captivating quality, with its ethereal melodies and intricate sounds that inspire introspection and evoke a touch of melancholy. These qualities were crucial for my film, which explores the intricacies of mental health and delusions. The music created an atmospheric backdrgrounde that heightened the immersive experience, enabling the audience to deeply sense the main character's emotional turmoil and disorientation.

Sea Power: Captivating and Inspiring

Along with Vanbur, I decided to include some music from the band Sea Power. Sea Power's music brought an extra dimension to the film with its atmospheric and evocative sound. They often incorporate beautiful orchestral elements with indie rock influences, resulting in a sound that is simultaneously evocative and intimate.
I find Sea Power's music to be incredibly captivating due to their ability to evoke a variety of emotions. Their tracks possess a versatile quality, able to transition smoothly from calm and reflective to powerful and gripping. I used  their music in various scenes throughout the film, perfectly capturing the different emotions and moments of the storyline. During moments of intense tension or clarity in the protagonist's delusions, Sea Power's crescendos added a powerful emotional impact.

Incorporating music into the story

Incorporating Vanbur and Sea Power's music into my film was a careful and intentional endeavour. I chose certain tracks that matched the mood and tempo of each scene. I chose Vanbur's ambient tracks to create a dreamlike and unsettling atmosphere for the scenes portraying the protagonist's delusions. On the other hand, Sea Power's more lively pieces were employed to emphasise moments of heightened emotion and dramatic climax.
Adding Sound Effects to My Final Video
Aside from the carefully selected music by Vanbur and Sea Power, sound effects were essential in creating an immersive experience for my final video. I carefully chose and combined different sounds, like whispers, creepy voices, and spooky laughter, to create a mood and make the audience feel the right emotions.

Whispering Murmurs

Whispeing voices were used to evoke a feeling of unease and suspicion. The whispers were strategically incorporated into scenes where the protagonist goes through intense moments of delusion, mirroring their inner turmoil and the fragmented nature of their thoughts. Whispers have a haunting quality that can make the audience feel like they're eavesdropping on the protagonist's inner voices. This technique was influenced by films such as "Black Swan," where whispers contribute to the psychological tension in the film.

Voices and laughter from the underworld
To make the eerie atmosphere even more intense, I added demonic voices and laughter. The sound effects worked really well in the scenes where the main character was experiencing intense hallucinations. The dremonic voices, which were often distorted and echoed, were used to symbolise the malicious nature of the delusions, giving the experience a sinister quality. The use of demonic laughter in this film was meant to enhance moments of horror and unpredictability, immersing the audience in the disturbed mind of the protagonist.

Additional Sound Effects

I incorporated sounds of footsteps to generate suspense and establish an eerie atmosphere. These sounds played a crucial role in scenes where the main character experiences a sense of being chased.
I added some ambient noises  to create a spooky atmosphere. These sounds were influenced by the environmental soundscapes commonly found in horror films, creating an eerie atmosphere.

Working with visuals
It took a lot of attention to detail to simultaneously incorporate these sound effects into the visual aspects of my film. The timing of each sound was meticulously synchronised with important moments in the story, which heightened the overall effect. For example, eerie laughter would match a particularly unsettling image, while soft whispers would come and go during moments of confusion and disorientation. The synchronisation of sound and visuals played a vital role in preserving the immersive nature of the experience.
